How to Use the Merchant Generator
The Merchant Generator quickly builds a believable shop inventory tailored to your world and party.
Pick a town, set a few sliders, choose the shop’s specialties, and click Generate to get a tidy table
with prices in gold, silver, and copper plus stock counts.
Quick start (under a minute)
-
Choose the town and context
Set Town Size, Merchant Level, Party Level, and Economic Wealth in the left column. -
Pick shop types
Click Choose Types, search or browse, tick what fits (for example, Armorer or Weaponsmith), then click Apply.
Tip: If you do not pick anything, it defaults to a General Store. -
Generate
Click Generate at the top of the right column. -
Fine-tune prices
Use the Price slider (10% – 200%) to nudge the whole shop up or down. The display shows a range in colored coins (gold, silver, copper). -
Tidy the view
Turn on Hide descriptions for a compact list. Click any note to expand it.
What the settings do
- Town Size – Bigger towns mean larger and broader inventories.
- Merchant Level – Novice, Intermediate, or Master affects quality and rarity.
- Party Level – Helps scale stock and add items that fit your level.
- Economic Wealth – Poor, Average, or Wealthy shifts pricing a bit.
- Choose Types – Filters to relevant goods. You can select multiple, like Armorer + Weaponsmith.
Tips and best practices
- Need a different mix? Adjust the left-side settings (or change Types) and click Generate again.
- Price feel – Use the Price slider to simulate scarcity, a sale, or haggling.
- No types selected? The tool falls back to a General Store.
- Session prep – Generate once for each major settlement and keep them handy. You can regenerate on the fly if players surprise you.
